Philosophy of Progress

Social, Economic, Scientific, Technological

We define progress as the movement towards a safer happier world rich with resources and satisfaction. Progress is the upward ascent of civilization towards the virtual elimination of scarcity, disease, war, and suffering. We believe the following principles are necessary for true progress to occur:
  • Acceptance that progress is possible
  • Acceptance of humanity and human nature
  • Adoption of logic and reason
  • Adoption of a problem solving perspective
  • Embracing science and technology
  • Embracing morality
  • Putting the needs of others equal to your own
  • Rejection of narcissism and pride
  • Rejection of arrogance
  • Rejection of rigid belief
  • Rejection of us versus them dynamics
If only it were this simple! So here are some barriers that must be overcome to achieve our goals:

Human Nature

  • Strong instinct to act in self interest
  • Tendency towards in/out group dynamics
  • Violence, fear, and hateful tendencies
  • Cultural evolution leading to destructive behaviors
  • Destructive superstitious and religious belief systems
  • Ignorance, racism, arrogance, and narcissism

Make no mistake what we are up against. If a true revolution was invented to lift humanity to a level far greater than we currently enjoy; such an idea would be fought against with the greatest of ferociousness from the majority of the population. The greater the solution the greater the fear and hate from the masses.

The Universe and Nature

  • Unpredictable climate and weather
  • Unpredictable universe
  • Destructive force of nature
  • Hostile nature of Biology
  • Intrinsic scarcity
The universe is a cold and hostile place and we should never forget what a gift life is and how easily it can be erased.
